Many Fairfield schools have been recognized with state or national awards for their programs, learning environment and parental and community involvement. The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) at Armijo High School was created in 1986 and is a demanding pre-university course of study for highly motivated juniors and seniors. The IB Program is internationally recognized for its comprehensive curriculum and high standards for assessment. The program emphasizes critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and exposure to a variety of points of view. The AVID Program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at Fairfield and Armijo High Schools provides an in-school academic support program that prepares students for college eligibility and success. AVID is for all students, but it targets those in the academic middle. Three-fourths of all AVID graduates attend college, almost twice the rate at which U.S. high school graduates do. Links |
